This painting details a section of brick wall that surrounds the Cumberland Hill School, a historic landmark in downtown Dallas, Texas. An old lamp is the focus of the composition that is almost entirely in the shade of an oak tree. A few rays of light have penetrated the canopy adding a warm presence to the painting. The scripture near the artist signature talks about the law of God, and how it is a light for our lives. From Proverbs chapter6, verse 23, it says:

"For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life."
