Though the tree that cast a interesting shadow is not actually in the composition, its presence is a major part to the painting, adding a bit of security and strength. In a simular way Christ is not seen in the world, but His presence is a part of the universe. The scripture by the artist signature is from the book of Revelation, chapter 3, verses 19 & 20. These verses say “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
